Château Chasse-Spleen
Description
Château Chasse-Spleen is a prestigious wine estate in the Bordeaux region, classified in 1932 as a Grand Cru Exceptionnel within the Médoc’s smallest appellation, Moulis-en-Médoc.
The estate covers 125 hectares of red wine vineyards and 5 hectares of white wine vineyards. This enchanting name is thought to have originated from discussions around 1860 between Rosa Ferrière, the lady of the house, and her neighbour, Odilon Redon, the renowned Symbolist painter. He did, in fact, illustrate Charles Baudelaire’s *Les Fleurs du Mal*, and is known to have made ‘spleen’ his own trademark.
In 1976, Chasse-Spleen was sold to Jacques Merlaut, a renowned wine merchant. In 2000, one of his granddaughters took over the running of the estate: Céline Villars.
The aromatic character of our wines is expressed through silky tannins and great elegance.
